Dr. Giri Chelian
Dr. Chelian’s journey to being an orthodontist in New Jersey was an adventure crossing oceans and mountains multiple times. He was born in South India as the youngest of 3 brothers, who are also orthodontists. Starting with humble beginnings after immigrating to San Diego, CA with his family he learned early the importance of education and hard work.
After Graduation and Education
After graduating with honors from the University of California, Dr. Chelian moved to the East Coast to pursue dental school at Howard University in Washington, DC. It was during this time that he met his wife, Tirza Valenzuela, originally from Chile but raised in North Jersey.
Afterward, he and his wife relocated to Las Vegas, NV, where he completed his orthodontic specialty residency at Roseman University and practiced orthodontics in Nevada and Arizona. After living in the desert, far from family for nearly 7 years, he decided to move closer to family, settling in Northern New Jersey and Boston.
Outside the Office
Beyond his practice, Dr. Chelian enjoys traveling, hiking, reading, and exploring new restaurants. He learned to cook at an early age and still finds it a relaxing hobby, which he often enjoys with friends and family. His goal for the current year is to eat healthier and continue learning Spanish. Dr. Chelian resides in Northern New Jersey with his wife Tirza, their 5-year-old daughter, Dalia, and his 2-year-old daughter, Dasha.

Dr. Giri Chelian’s Practice
Our practice has been serving Union City, New Jersey for over 30 years and was founded by Dr. Gary Weitz, with whom Dr. Chelian worked alongside until Dr. Weitz’s retirement in 2017. Dr. Chelian is honored to have treated generations of families who have trusted our practice for nearly 40 years.
Dr. Giri Chelian carries on a tradition of orthodontic excellence that spans over 40 years. He comes from a family of orthodontists, and giving his patients the brilliant smiles they desire is his passion. Dr. Chelian worked alongside the founder of Urban Orthodontics, Dr. Weitz, for many years and has led the practice since Dr. Weitz’s retirement in 2017.
