For the most part, when you start treatment with us, we give you all the essentials and a lot of extra tools and goodies. There are some additional products you can purchase for your orthodontic convenience.
Toothpaste
There 100’s of types of toothpaste but the 3 things you should look for when you are doing orthodontic treatment while we are moving your teeth;
1. ADA-approved toothpaste
2. Toothpaste which has Flouride
3. Tooth sensitivity protection
Recommended products
Many patients also look for toothpaste with some whitening and there are many that offer some level of whitening but please remember while the braces or Invisalign attachment are on the teeth, the teeth will appear not as white as when the treatment is completed and all appliances removed. Some brands Dr. Chelian recommends are
Waterpik
This is not as good as traditional flossing but considering many patients (Children and Adults) find flossing with braces more time-consuming this is a good way to remove small food debris which can get stuck in between your braces and wire.
Recommended products
Here are several models with different features (portable, cordless, etc) but the basic purpose is the same. *** Dr. Chelian recommends you watch this youtube video on how to properly use before you accidentally have a watergun fight in the bathroom.
Mouthwash
There are many types of mouthwashes available. The things to look for are gum health, anti-bacterial properties, alcohol-free (for children), and taste. These are a few that Dr. Chelian recommends.

Best Toothbrush for Braces
All of our patients receive a toothbrush kit which includes a long bristle toothbrush and a travel/pocket toothbrush. However, some of our patients like electronic toothbrushes, and there are 2 brands that are very popular in the marketplace
Recommended products
Although these toothbrushes are great options, Dr. Chelian firmly believes the true best toothbrush you can buy is the one that will be used at least twice a day for a minimum of 2 minutes each time. The electronic toothbrushes makes it a little easier to brush but you can still get the same results with a manual toothbrush.
Night Guards For Braces
If you have braces the traditional night guard will not work well because part of the guard will block the brackets and/or will not fit well. You do not want a “Custom” night guard while you have braces and the best options are the ones seen below:
